At VUOTS, we believe that literacy is the foundation for personal and community success. Unfortunately, many individuals in Philadelphia face significant literacy challenges that hinder their ability to thrive. Recent data highlights the pressing need for action: approximately 22% of residents aged 16 and older lack basic literacy skills, with 52% categorized as functionally illiterate. This affects their ability to fill out job applications, read medical instructions, and help their children with schoolwork.

Recognizing these issues, VUOTS is dedicated to transforming lives through literacy initiatives. In 2024, we distributed over 250 books to empower youth and adults, promoting a love for reading and providing essential resources to enhance their skills. Our programs are designed to create supportive environments where individuals can develop their reading, writing, and comprehension abilities.
