All staff, volunteers, and program partners are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct when interacting with minors.
VUOTS affirms that:
• the safety and well-being of youth is the highest priority
• all youth deserve to be treated with dignity and respect
• exploitation, abuse, or inappropriate conduct toward minors will not be tolerated
Individuals working with youth through VUOTS must:
• maintain appropriate professional boundaries
• avoid situations involving unsupervised one-on-one interactions when possible
• communicate respectfully and appropriately with students
• refrain from engaging in behavior that could be perceived as exploitative or harmful
Any concerns regarding the safety or welfare of a student should be reported immediately to VUOTS leadership.
VUOTS will take appropriate steps to investigate concerns and comply with applicable reporting laws if necessary.
VUOTS occasionally documents educational programs, events, and community activities through photography, video recording, audio recording, or written narratives.
These materials may be used for:

Media documentation involving minors requires written consent from a parent or legal guardian through a signed Media Consent Form.
Participation in media documentation is voluntary. Declining consent will not affect a student's ability to participate in VUOTS programs.

VUOTS believes that youth storytelling and narrative sharing should be conducted with care, dignity, and respect.
Youth voices are central to many VUOTS initiatives, including educational storytelling, community history documentation, and youth media projects.
VUOTS commits to the following principles:

• sensitive experiences will be approached with care and respect
• participants may request anonymity or limited disclosure of personal information
Stories shared by youth participants will not be edited, framed, or presented in ways that misrepresent their experiences.
Participants may review their recorded narratives when appropriate and may request the removal of identifying information.
VUOTS prioritizes protecting the dignity and emotional well-being of youth storytellers.
VUOTS maintains procedures designed to protect personal and program data from unauthorized access, misuse, or disclosure.
VUOTS takes reasonable administrative and technical measures to safeguard personal information, including:
